Lava Discovery – Holuhraun

In 2014, one of the largest eruptions in recent history started in Holuhraun, in the volcanic system of Bárðarbunga. The eruption lasted for six months and produced a lava field of over 85 km2. During our flight, we fully grasp the enormity of the eruption and explore the lava field with it’s spectacular crater row. We follow the edge of Vatnajökull glacier, the biggest glacier in Europe, and on our way back we fly over to the nearby Askja caldera and see Herðubreið mountain.
