Frequently Asked Questions

A private tour – On a private flight you charter the whole helicopter. The group size does not matter but there is a max four passengers per helicopter, the private tour price will remain the same per helicopter. Perfect choice if you want the helicopter to yourself and guarantee a window seat. The seating arrangement is one passenger in a front seat and 3 seats in the back.

A shared tour – On a shared tour you will be matched with other travellers who are interested in the same tour. Seating arrangement is decided by height and weight; therefore, we cannot guarantee you a window seat on a shared tour. The seating arrangement is one passenger in a front seat and 3 seats in the back.

If you are a solo traveler and would like to join one of our tours, there are a couple of options available:

  • Firstly, you can book a private tour, which gives you the flexibility to choose your own itinerary and travel at your own pace.
  • Secondly, you can book a shared tour. Charged with the minimum passenger requirement (2 or 3 passengers depending on the tour). Should we be able to pair you up with others, we will issue a partial refund accordingly.
  • Alternatively, you can send us your availability and we will do our best to group you with other passengers who are also interested in the same tour. In this case you would be on our “call-list” or waiting list.

Once your tour is booked, we will assign you a departure time via email. This allows us to provide a personalized experience for each tour group. We will take your preferred departure slot into consideration as stated during the booking process, subject to availability.

Passenger minimums only apply on shared tours: Are you a single traveller and want to join a tour with a 2/3 person minimum? Or two people who want to join a tour with a minimum of 3 persons?

These are the available options:

  • Firstly, you can book a private tour, which gives you the flexibility to choose your own itinerary and travel at your own pace.
  • Secondly, you can book a shared tour. Charged with the minimum passenger requirement (2 or 3 passengers depending on the tour). Should we be able to pair you up with others, we will issue a partial refund accordingly.
  • Alternatively, you can send us your availability and we will do our best to group you with other passengers who are also interested in the same tour. In this case you would be on our “call-list” or waiting list.

Hangar 3 – Reykjavík Airport

Reykjavík airport lies in direct proximity to the city center. It can be reached within 45 min from Keflavik international airport.

The first thing we always recommend are good shoes regardsless of the season, preferebly winter or hiking boots since we might be landing in the mountians or in snowy places.

In summer it is usually enough to bring a light jacket. In winter time it is important to be well dressed and have many layers. The tempature in the highlands will usually be a few degrees less than in Reykjavik. It will be nice and warm inside the helicopter but might be cold outside, especially in the highlands and around glaciers. You can store your larger winter coats in the baggage compartment while you enjoy the sights from your seat.

The weather does of course play a factor in helicopter tours. The weather in Iceland is very changeable and can at times be difficult to predict many days in advance.

If the weather does not allow us to take our planned route, we will offer an alternate route. In case an alternate route is not an option we are most often able to either postpone the flight a few hours and the weather will have passed.

In the event we do need to cancel your tour due to adverse weather conditions, we at Volcano Heli want you to know that safety is our number one priority and we base our decisions with that in mind.

If a flight is cancelled by Volcano Heli, we will offer you the option of rescheduling. We are very flexible and will try our best to accommodate your itinerary. If rescheduling is not a possibility you will receive a refund according to our cancellation policy.

Yes, the tours we feature on the website are only a small sample of what we do. We also tailor make tours to fit the customers’ needs and interests.

We can create tours to fit your interests and budget. It is possible to combine the helicopter tour with other activities, for example cave diving, glacier hiking, bathing in hot springs, sailing tours and much more.

We also offer the possibility of doing multiple day tours with overnight stays out in the countryside.

Photo flights are designed for people who are interested in aerial and landscape photography. You do not need to be a professional photographer to do a photo tour. We fly with photographers from all over the world, both novices and professionals.

We remove the doors of the helicopter, so the photographer has an unrestricted view for taking photos. The Robinson helicopters are perfect for aerial photography since they are narrow, with a large doorframe and the rotors sit quite high. This gives you and your camera more freedom of movement without having any part of the helicopter be in your frame.

Photo flights are based on hourly rates and are always tailored to the interests of the photographer. If you are interested in aerial photography and you are not sure which sights or natural phenomenon you would like to photograph let us know and we are happy to make suggestions and help you create the perfect tour.

Let us know and together we can organize your special tour. You can choose any tour from our website or we create a tailor-made tour just for you. If we know in advance, we can plan to land in places where you will be alone.

The pilot will be sure to give you some privacy while you pop the question. Or if you prefer the pilot can casually hang around to be ready with the camera when the moment comes. Either way, you tell us, and we will make it happen.

People often celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other important life events with us. If you have any special request regarding the tour, please let us know and we would be happy to try and make this day extra special for you.
